Ushers, protocol officers, and other sanctuary workers from Assemblies of God churches in Greater Accra West took part in a series of PAISS Ghana training sessions on emergency preparedness and soul care, described in the programme as customer care.

Facilitated by Korsah Caleb, Project Facilitator at PAISS Ghana, the sessions connected everyday responsibilities—welcoming visitors, managing access, and supporting congregants—with preparation for incidents during church gatherings.

Three sessions across the region

The activity report records three batches and estimates total participation at 255–270 people.

What the training covered

Preparing for emergencies

Sessions addressed identifying potential risks at church gatherings, evacuation procedures, first response, and the roles sanctuary workers can play during an emergency.

Welcoming and supporting congregants

The soul care component focused on welcoming visitors, communicating clearly, responding with empathy, and reflecting Christ-like character in service.

Church security and coordination

Discussions covered vigilance, crowd control, access management, and coordination during major programmes, including Christmas and all-night services.

Documented procedures

The training highlighted the need for written standard operating procedures so that workers have a shared understanding of responsibilities and can prepare before incidents occur.

Recommendations for the next phase

The report recommends making the training a quarterly programme across the region, developing a sanctuary workers’ manual covering emergency preparedness, soul care, and church security, and enabling trained workers to share what they learned in their local churches.

It also identifies preparation for a national programme scheduled for October 2026 as a priority.

PAISS Ghana acknowledges the Greater Accra West regional leadership and the local pastors who released their workers to participate.
